Laurie provides accounting, auditing, and income tax services to individuals and businesses in a wide variety of industries, including non-publicly traded companies, financial institutions, local governments, not-for-profits, and employee benefit plans.
Laurie is a graduate of the University of South Dakota and joined the firm in 2012. She became a Certified Public Accountant in 2014, added the designation of Certified Fraud Examiner in 2021, and became a partner with the firm in 2022.
Laurie is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. She is also an active member of the community, including serving her township, professional societies, and chamber activities as well as coordinating the firm’s community outreach activities through KRP Cares.
Unlike other members of the firm, I took a non-traditional route to becoming a CPA. Throughout my 20s and most of my 30s, our family followed my husband’s Army career around the country. South Dakota represents the tenth state I’ve lived in, and with each move, there were new friends, new jobs, new things to learn, and so many new experiences.
Our family’s final Army assignment to University of South Dakota’s ROTC program allowed me the opportunity to go back to school and get the final credits I needed to be eligible for the CPA exam and then KRP offered me the opportunity to learn and grow in the accounting field as both a tax accountant and an auditor.
That ability to exist in both “accounting worlds” is one of the special things about a firm the size and structure of KRP. Without it, I would have never imagined expanding from tax into auditing and attestation. Now I find the relationships we’re able to build with our audit clients to be the most rewarding. Where some might see auditing as looking for mistakes, I see it as finding ways to add value and help our clients improve their accounting and internal control processes from year to year.
